As the all-time winningest coach in Wisconsin high school basketball history, Jerry Petitgoue has seen and utilized a wide array of methods to play offense. Having all sorts of players come through Cuba City High School (WI) – from undersized players, to talented and explosive players, to smart and savvy rosters some years and everything in-between, Coach Petitgoue managed to win 1,027 games over a nearly 60 year coaching career by adapting system basketball in a variety of ways that gave his offense flexibility, was easy to teach and always stressed out opposing defenses by exposing weaknesses.

No matter the offensive system he employed, Petitgoue found success year after year, by utilizing the best offensive concepts based on the defense and competition he faced.

In this presentation, Coach Petitgoue showcases the explosive 5-Out and 3-Out Motion Offenses he used, as well as a few tough-to-guard offensive wrinkles he put in the mix, that helped him build sustained program excellence year after year.

5-Out Motion Offense

One of the most-popular offenses to run in today’s game has been a ‘positionless’ 5-out motion offense. This style of offense has been successful at every level of basketball.By maximizing and utilizing different screening actions, Coach Petitgoue has elevated a standard 5-Out Motion Offense and transformed it into an attacking style of play.

As he covers the basic setup, rules and guidelines he employs to teach this offense to his players, Petitgoue dives deep when it comes to the details, such as, the different ways to read a variety of defenses, tactics you can use to beat a pack-line defense and multiple ways you can defeat high-pressure defense.Through an effective system of using off-the-ball screens, Coach Petitgoue shows you how to get your players good looks at easy, high-percentage buckets and score effectively in the paint.

3-Out Motion Offense

Having the ability to easily adjust in-game or employ multiple offenses with regularity during a game means that your team will be tough for an opponent to guard. Coach Petitgoue has won over 1000 career games using multiple offense attacks and this 3-Out Motion Offense has been a reliable go-to option for him over the years.

Beginning from a 1-4 High set up, Petitgoue walks you through how to maximize and seamlessly move into a high-low look and use a variety of ball screens to attack the paint and create mismatches that will give problems to even the best help-side defense.

Included in the 3-Out Motion are two highly effective, in-game wrinkles Petitgoue has used successfully, called ‘20’ and ’21’ – where post players position themselves physically into a ball screen or use an ‘Iverson Cut’ to create a high-low post entry.

Highly Effective Wrinkles

Coach Petitgoue shares several additional offense ‘wrinkles’ that work with both motion offenses and contain multiple scoring options that are sure to get your team fired up for a number of exciting options, including: backdoor lob-pass, short corner 3-point shots or back screen layups.

All of Petitgoue’s options are sure to keep defenses on their heels and add extra pop to your offense. Best of all, these wrinkles are designed to flow seamlessly into both the 5-Out or 3-Out Motion if you can’t get a good shot off.

Motion Offense leads to multiple scoring opportunities. Utilizing this style of play means that your opponents will struggle to scout your offense, especially when you include specials or wrinkles that flow seamlessly within your system.Your players will love this ball-reversal, attacking style of play that dominates the paint against a pack-line defense or heavy pressure man to man defense.

In this must-watch, highly valuable offensive on-the-court ‘clinic,’ Coach Petitgoue’s experience is a testimony to the very best ways to teach effective offense, while keeping things simple to teach and easy to install. No matter the level you coach, you will want to add this coaching video on motion offense to your program today!

Customer Review: 5 Out of 5 Stars. “Coach Petitgoue is a master-level coach and teacher. He keeps his offenses simple, yet employs multiple looks and wrinkles that work against most defenses, creating a tough defensive draw against any opponent! Excellent video!”
