2x SoCon South Division ChampionsWhen your team is matched up against a high-level opponent, or you’re facing a tough conference opponent who knows you well and has your in-game strategies well-scouted, the key differentiator between winning and losing comes from the ability to execute on the floor under pressure!
In this instructional coaching video, Virginia Tech’s Mike Young shares winning ideas, game-tested strategies and important coaching points-of-emphasis to help improve your team’s ability to execute during critical, yet commonly-occurring situations that happen in every game.
Coach Young begins this presentation with a discussion of the importance of a coach establishing a team identity and provides an explanation of how he and his staff have defined basketball identity – by placing a priority on offensive efficiency with a key emphasis on limiting turnovers.
SLOB and BLOB Scenarios
Coach Young begins on court with an examination of half-court offensive efficiency and how your half-court team identity can be seen in what you run with your main offense(s) and how you incorporate SLOB (Sideline Out of Bounds) and BLOB (Baseline Out of Bounds) situations.
With a focus on the critical importance of SLOB and BLOB situations, Young explains why these situations need to viewed as your basketball equivalent of ‘special teams’; the ability to outscore opponents in these situations is crucial in how you will build a game plan, and how you develop an overall equation for beating an opponent.
Using Pin-Down Screens, Creating Mismatches
Coach Young goes through an in-depth explanation of his basic offensive scheme. As it progresses, Young incorporates a major coaching emphasis on pin-down screens and why they are critically important in creating mismatches – demonstrating the process for executing them in 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 situations.
Young explains why your success rate is higher when focusing on these mismatch situations, rather than just repping your offense continually in 5-on-5 practice segments – adding that the more success you can generate in these situations, the higher your overall offense efficiency will become.
Providing a wide range of sets and offensive counters to defensive adjustments, Young showcase some of his favorite plays and highlights the keys to making each one successful.
This is a jam-packed, fully-loaded coaching video and a superb look at the basic skills your offense needs to become proficient at to successfully execute against any defensive scheme – while not overloading your players with complex information or too many set plays.
Coach Young takes the time to explain why it is the basics and how you teach details that promote highest offensive efficiency output.
If you’re looking to take your team’s offense to the next level and zero in on the details that make the special situations of a game successful, then Coach Young is your guy, and this is a must-own coaching video to add to your basketball library!
