Five years ago, University of Michigan's then head coach John Beilein, granted Championship Productions unprecedented access to film a series of 'All Access' practices on Beilein's offensive and defensive practice sessions, and also, his renowned shooting methods sessions; only with the promise that the footage wouldn't be released until Beilein's retirement from coaching college basketball.
After being named the head coach of the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers in Spring 2019, Coach Beilein has agreed to finally release this practice footage to the public! Now you can learn the coaching strategies used by one of the most successful college basketball coaches in the nation over the past 30 years.
Regarded as one of the best tactical coaches in the game, John Beilein has developed some of the best shooters in college basketball. In this video, he unveils his shooting secrets and the system he has used to take good shooters and turn them into prolific scoring threats from the outside.
Perfecting Shooting Form
Starting with a shooter's feet and hands, Coach Beilein shows the technique that he's taught his players over the years. He demonstrates two different shooting steps, Pogo Stick and Split Step, that your players can use to develop balance within their footwork. He shows players how to 'Read the Map' with their hands as they catch and square up to the rim, working the hand, wrist, and follow through for a perfect upper body motion.
Shooting Drills & Skill Work
Understanding basic footwork and upper body work is crucial for athletes as they are put through Beilein's shooting drills and skill development series. With each drill and skill set, your players will be challenged to meet a certain amount of shots to develop their shooting consistency. From simple form shooting to shooting on the move at different spots around the rim and perimeter, players will prove their shooting skill as defenders run at and pressure their shots. Coach Beilein does a great job demonstrating how every drill can be done at a game speed within a game situation.
Coach Beilein develops his athletes into complete, all-around players with additional skill-oriented drills. He uses a system of numbers that each position player must meet to be considered a master at their position. With each numbering system, players push themselves to become a better ball handler, proving that by putting in hard work you can achieve and play at a high level.
Coach Beilein is an excellent teacher and tactical coach who has developed some of the best shooters at the collegiate level in recent memory. With his shooting and skill development series, your players will build confidence in their shot and create consistency within their game.
