In this video, Chris Harney of St. Mary's College of Maryland shares his thoughts on special situations and unique ways to prepare for them. You'll get drills that work on finishes and shooting to get your players ready to take the big shot at the end of the game, and you'll also get a special offense and defense to use to keep your opponent guessing.
Coach Harney shows how attention to detail can help elevate the focus of your players while emphasizing performance at game speed. By keeping score and holding athletes accountable beginning with warm-up drills, you will learn how to get all players involved quickly in practice and raise the level of focus for your team.
Warm-Up Drills
Harney presents a unique way to get ready for special situations right at the beginning of practice while your team is warming up! Knock out two birds with one stone with the 7, 5, 3 Drill to get your team running and prepared to play in the full-court with time-specific plays. 'Laker Layups' is another drill that will teach your players to execute the little details to ensure success during game situations.
Shooting Drills
Just as Coach Harney says, "you can never have too many shooting drills!" You'll receive three drills that work on shooting with a competitive edge. Your players will work on spot-up shooting and shooting on the move with the Jimmer Drill and the LeBron Drill.
Special Offense and Defense
The more tools you have in your coaching toolbox, the better your team will be in special situations. Being able to throw in a special defense in spots will earn your team unexpected turnovers and points when you need them most.
Unique to this video is Coach Harney's situational offense that is designed to help maintain and extend the lead at the end of a game. With a disciplined use of cutters and an emphasis on drawing fouls, this offense helps coaches manage game situations in order to protect a lead while maintaining an aggressive approach to scoring.
As an added bonus, Harney includes a baseline out-of-bounds play that results in a high percentage shot against zone defenses.
Defense is just as important in end game situations as offense. What do you go to when you want to change the tempo or get a steal? Coach Harney share some of his preferred coverages for the Amoeba Defense.
Never feel unprepared for crunch time! With this video, you'll get fresh takes on how to practice special plays and situations that will get your team ready for when the game is on the line.
