How do you incorporate multiple post players into an effective offensive system?  How can you highlight guards who can’t create their own shot?  Coach English will give you the answers to these questions in a modernized version of the Blocker-Mover offense.

In this on-the-court instructional presentation, you will learn how to develop the essential actions to the offense, along with critical principles for any offensive system, and set plays to highlight a post who can stretch the floor.

Blocker-Mover Screens & Drills

Coach English shows off the foundation for the offense by focusing on each individual action. Viewers will learn how to train the reads and execution of baseline screens, flare screens, and the ‘back down.’ Using 1-on-0 and 1-on-1 drills, you can help your players understand the types of cuts they can make off each type of screen along with why they would make that cut by reading the defense.

You’ll also learn how to play off these actions with post feeds, split-screens, cutting actions and ball screens. Coach English breaks down how you can take advantage of a post who can shoot. With an ‘Out-Cut,’ coaches can change the floor spacing and flow into different actions within the offense.

George Mason values drills that are going to build decision making into each repetition. Coaches will learn how to use the ‘Saluki Drill’ to help ball handlers maintain their court vision under intense ball pressure situations.

You will also learn how to play off the baseline screens and flare screens with two versions of 3-on-3.  By adding a time constraint, you can help your players focus on specific scoring options within the offense.

Explosive Blocker-Mover Set PlaysThree plays are shown that can highlight a stretch 4 on your team. Using the play ‘Chin’ frees your player for an open shot off a flurry of multiple screening options. The play ‘Floppy Curl’ is another great set that utilizes your player at the elbow for an isolation opportunity or to be a playmaker for nearby teammates.

Coach English believes that a critical part of any offense is getting your players to have what he describes as ‘shared cognition.’ You will see numerous examples of this concept as Coach English explains how players should space off dribble penetration, play off post feeds, base decisions on the skill sets of nearby teammates and more.

In these examples, you will see how to counter defenses who ‘downside’ ball screens and how to play to new actions when the ball is passed to the ‘sandwich’ off an empty ball screen.

This video provides insight into an offensive system that has withstood the test of time and is used at every level of basketball today.
